Solitude. If that’s what you’re looking for, then you’ll find it at Payne Lake Recreation Area in the heart of the Oakmulgee Unit of the Talladega National Forest. Don’t be confused. There are two Talladega National Forests on most maps: one to the east side of the state, where Alabama’s tallest mountain, Cheaha, is located, and this one to the west.
